Coast Guard demolishes old, obsolete LORAN tower
The Coast Guard said it has demolished the 625-foot Long Range Aids to Navigation, or LORAN, tower in Attu. The tower was old, deteriorating and scheduled to be decommissioned Aug. 26. It came down early because of the rising risk it would fall over on its own, the Coast Guard said.
